our vineyards Our vines grow on the famous steep slopes of slate of the Saar. Their southward direction guarantees an optimal efficiency of the sun irradiation. The ability of the slate soil to store heat in the day-time and to emit it during the night provides a balanced microclimate. It is the slate soil as well that gives the wine its Saar-typical mineral character. In average and vintage years the top-quality wines will not be exceeded by any other white wine of the world. 80 % of our top vineyards are hard to work steep slopes; yet they are the inalienable base for our quality work. Convinced at heart we have been obligated to the "Steep-Slope-Viticulture" for many years.
