our wine estate our wine estate

Alois Hein In our family the grape growing and wine making tradition goes back four generations. In 1966 Alois Hein, winemaker, married Maria Schultheis and the two families joined their independent vineyards to create the Hein-Schultheis wine estate. During the years to follow Alois Hein purchased additional land expanding the estate to it current 8.5 hectares or 21 acres.
In 1990 1.0 hectares or 2.5 acres of pinot noir was planted - the first in the region!
Carrying on the family tradition, Marga Schmitt, Alios and Maria´s daughter and "Saarweinkönigin" one of the Saar´s wine festival queens, took charge of the family estate in 2002.

Marga Schmitt
The motto of our house is the production of high quality wines. Doing this, we pay particular attention to environmental-consciuns management. 80 % of our vineyards are steep slopes and therefore extremly labour-intensive, as every work, even the vintage, has to be done by hand.
Our main varietal is the Riesling. Moreover we also grow Pinot Noir (Blauer Spätburgunder), Pinot Gris (Grauer Bugunder), and Rivaner (Müller-Thurgau).

our wine estate We carefully stabilize our wines in our own winery. Due to a slow fermentation by low temperature the flavours can evolve in an ideal way. Special carefulness we apply to the "Typizity" of vintage and grape variety. Notably high-quality wines we also ripen in barriques. The taste variety of our wines reaches from dry to noble-sweet and from tangy-fresh to mature and full-bodied. We bottle our wines without exception in our estate (producer bottling or estate bottling).
We process a certain part of our wines into sparkling wine ("Winzersekt"), according to the traditional fermentation in bottles, same as Champagne.

We would be glad to bid you welcome in our estate before long.
